Montes Doggett

Our Story

Montes Doggett has its roots in Mexico, where owner Monica Porter grew up. Her mother, who frequently hosted formal dinners and had an eye for simple and elegant settings, would whisper in Monica’s ear: “You should be the one setting the table. You do it so tastefully and beautifully.”

Those early words – combined with stories shared over a meal – ignited a passion in Monica for table settings, entertaining and food.

Even the name Montes Doggett recalls memories of family and food. Montes and Doggett are the maiden names of Monica’s mother and mother-in-law. Both women shared a passion for the home and table, and both knew memories created over food would be cherished by the family for decades.

Today, Montes Doggett continues the tradition of creating memories at the table by offering an exquisite collection of tabletop ceramics and pottery. Each handcrafted piece is chosen for its versatility, simplicity and functionality. The traditional shapes of the tabletop are interpreted in news ways, creating endless possibilities and combinations. Latin American artisans then fine-tune, transform and inspire the pieces without molds or assembly-line machinery.

From start to finish, only the finest natural materials are used and each piece undergoes rigorous processes to ensure unparalleled workmanship. Clay of the highest quality is selected from the Andes Mountains of Peru. The clay is ground, shaped and fired for durability and to make each piece lead-free and microwave-, dishwasher- and oven-safe.

Monica and her husband, John, share the same love of entertaining out of their home in Greensboro, N.C., that their mothers bestowed on them years ago. Now, with over 10 years of experience in the industry, the couple brings their knowledge to your tabletop.

Montes Doggett believes in fair trade, respects indigenous artisans and celebrates the inherent beauty and craftsmanship of pottery made by loving hands.

As you choose each piece, Monica hopes the fine work of the artists will spur good food, drink, laughter and memories at your table, just as they do at hers.
